First and foremost I am doing this for myself.

I have worked for most of my adult life. Not having much time off between jobs, I have had a varied and full working life.

Until a few years ago when my wife got ill.

I stopped working to help my wife with a debilitating illness. Over the years since I have struggled to get back into work.

The UK has become a nation of unemployable people and has a Government doing everything it can to hold back progression and keep the low-income people vulnerable and worthless while lining their own pockets. I receive no help into getting back to work all the while getting told to check the job sites daily. because you know, the same 400 jobs might change one day.

Everyday I check the many jobsites and local job centre site to see the same, out of reach jobs being repeated on every site. ‘experience needed’ On Target Earnings, Jobs that require years of training, must have this, this and this. It’s daunting and never ending.

After my daily soul crushing look through the same jobs, I am left more and more worthless. I cannot hope to compete with any of the University leavers. People with Experience. I cannot hope to gain experience if no company is willing to take a risk on me and it is the same for Thousands of others around the country.

But. There could be a way that I can contribute. Not only for myself but to others suffering the same as I. I could get myself ‘out there.’ But I need help.

I recently applied to become a Google Trekker. I will just tell you a little about it. You have all heard about the Google cars with 360° camera’s on the top driving down every street around the world. Google want to go further than that and image places that cannot be driven down. To this end they have made a backpack version that they ‘loan’ out. I want to help them do that. But also I want to help other people like me aswell.

Google Trekker is not a job. 

There is no Salary. 

But I believe that by helping Google, I can help others by raising money as I walk.

Now this is all new to me and I have always made my own way in the world and asking the world for help seems very weird. My hopes are that with the words that I write in this and future updates, They tell you a bit about who I am.
